Story

When Rosemary agrees to chaperone her shy, motherless and very dear friend, Tetrine, on a trip to the coast, she didn't expect her friend's fiancé to be such a bore.

Luckily, Rosemary is both an actress and an excellent judge of character. It should be a piece of cake to convince her friend to give this one a pass. Only, it isn't, and the longer they stay at the house on the cliffside, the more convinced Rosemary becomes that her frend's fiance isn't just a heel - he's got his heart set on murder.

Will Rosemary be able to persuade her friend to leave? Or will Rosemary lose a dear friend?

Rosemary Deid from the World of Aeser game/vn series by @sunlabyrinth. She's the best friend of Tetrine Reish (the main character) and appears in Asher (the first part of the trilogy) and its prequels - Winter's Trumpet and Drown the Bride. While initially I was rather neutral towards her or even disliked her a bit, I began to like her after playing Drown the Bride, in which she's the main character.

If you haven't played these games, I strongly recommend them - you can tell they were made by an artist and that the author enjoys creating her world very much (which reminds me about Tolkien's attitude towards his world, although on smaller scale).

Thanos is 1000% the rich powerful person. He has all the power and means to help, but outright refuses to because he doesn't think that's how the world should work.

I don't remember if it was the Russos or Markus and McFleely that made some statements that deep down Thanos was just egotistical. But that doesn't really matter because the film itself was determined to frame Thanos as sympathetic. It's so easy to refute his claims or point out how illogical and dumb his idea is, but only Doctor Strange calls him out once, and even that doesn't directly challenge his idea or his hypocrisy..

Because the creators are more interested in Thanos than anyone else. The Aeser are made an endangered species, there's no focus on the deep trauma Gamora and Nebula because the Russos love Thanos being the burdened man.

Thanos had already killed off half of the population of several species (like Gamora’s people) when he did the snap. That means, for those species, he actually wound up killing off 3/4 of them.

Also, as I understand it, Thanos killed off half of every living thing. So, essentially, he also destroyed half of the universe’s living natural resources too (forests, cattle, crops, coral reefs, honeybees, etc.). That just left everyone who survived with the same problem of overpopulation (i.e., more consumers than resources available).

We’re supposed to appreciate that Thanos believed he was doing the right thing for the universe by taking this extreme measure of sacrificing half of everyone. But if he was actually motivated by any moral code he should have thought about this stuff. He wasn’t stupid.

I mean, obviously, there is a mountain range of other flaws in his reasoning, but these points show contradictions within his own warped logic.

Thanos does not deserve sympathy points for trying to do the right thing as he saw it. He never questioned his own reasoning. He was just a narcissistic dumbass who presumed his own righteousness. He just allowed himself to believe what he wanted to, so he could play God.

I just realized I fixated on Mobius talking about how great it is that the time fascists gave him a job I didn't realize he's an idiot.

He talks about how crazy the concept of magic, Aeser and Jotun are and how it's not difficult from the time keepers. But he's comparing two different things. It be one thing if Loki believed in the Norns or something but magic and intergalactic travel are just part of Loki's world. It be like comparing God and destiny to computers and electricity. Yeah, it crazy that we do so much on tiny boxes made of plastic and metal but it can be understood and explained. They don't exist because we believe they exist they because they exist. Destiny and fate are concepts, believing in something is not the same as knowing something even if that something is kinda weird when you think about it.

To me that chat conveys two things: that Mobius doesn't know how it all works and, most importantly, he doesn't mind not knowing. He still enforces every rule and does as told every time.

Someone who is so proud to say this about an organization he barely knows...

... is not exactly a smart cookie. And by the way, it's quite telling how he keeps dodging the questions Loki asks him.

He asks if he believes in all that "stuff" (oh Loki's way of speech, where are thou) and Mobius' answer is "I don't get hung up on 'believe, not believe', I just accept what is." When Loki asks if free will even exists anymore Mobius responds "oh that's an oversimplification". He never answers directly, all he says is TVA propaganda which is a nice way to prove that all agents, him included, have been effectively manipulated by the TVA but... that brings the question: why is he happy with that? He doesn't question anything?

He talks about jet-skis and how much he loves them even though he has never used one, he says the TVA is his life but he doesn't know how it works and doesn't care to ask - and what's worse, the time he does ask a question or two to Ravonna and she doesn't answer he's cool with it. It's not until ep4 that he bothers with trying to figure things out for himself but this guy has been working for the TVA for years, decades, centuries... who knows. And he didn't care to do that before?

After Loki has mentioned his bio father and Odin and where he comes from, Mobius says: "If you think too much... it all sounds ridiculous" - this comes after he has said the TVA is his life and "it's real" because he believes "it's real"

All this to say I wholeheartedly agree with, Mobius isn't exactly smart.

1. Who are the other potential love interests in the Empress of Aeser except Markaius? I guess that the female one is Kialee, but who's the other male love interest? If this supposed to be a secret, don't tell!

2. Which characters in the World of Aeser are lgbt+? Tetrine and Tell are bi/pan, Kalavel is attracted to (only?) women, Allie (female mc) and maybe Judy/Felicia are attracted to women... what about other characters?

Kialee is not a romantic interest in Empress, but Kalevel is.

Yeah, I think Kalevel is only attracted to women. I say 'I think' because I don't plan these things. If it feels natural for the character, I go with it. One Tell a Demon ending suggests at least an alliance between Kalevel and a man and maybe something more. However, I can't answer your question about how the other characters are because it may change if it feels right for the character in a different route or context.

I am not very 'commercial minded' in my approach to writing games. I prioritize what seems right within the themes, the characters and what they want, and I aim to be true to the player's choices. So that means I don't prescribe routes like a writer god ("And now! You and you shall smooch at the midpoint whether you like it or not!").

So that means that the answer atm to your other question, is 'probably Julius' because that was what I had envisioned for Empress before I wrote Tell a Demon and introduced Tell as a character. So if Tell and Julius start out with a platonic relationship in Empress, that may mean Julius is a romantic option for Tetrine.

Empress has more of a twisty Noir treatment, esp. later on. So we'll see. A Julius/Tetrine option is most likely a go, but if something works better for the story, I may go with that instead. Hopefully it will be good, if that's the case. (But this is why it's not been officially announced--because there's a small chance it may change). My muse is aggravatingly capricious and historically indecisive. But I'm way better at negotiating my way with it than I used to be. Sometimes I have to trick it into not interfering with my goals so much. (I have this sneaking suspicion it's Markaius pulling the strings. I've had this character around since I was fourteen and he likes all the attention to be on him.)
